Moving On

The reason that we are selling our home is that our children take part in an alternative education called Waldorf. We are heading to Northern California to a beautiful Waldorf farm school. When we began selling our house a year ago we had hoped for a quick sale so that we could be down here by June 2009. But perhaps quick sales are rarer than they were a few years ago. We've have been under contract four times now. We would love to sell our house to someone who enjoys the beauty of an old home. It has some unique things about it and needs buyers that are open to this. It is being sold As-Is. We are out of state but we do have an inspection report which is available on request. We are honest sellers and hope to find equally honest buyers.

Here we have the herb garden leading up to the steps that take you to the main floor of the home. The main part of the home is actually three stories although the basement is partially underground.

Apartment

The apartment is 950 square feet and includes a bedroom, kitchen and bathroom. We have found the apartment extremely useful for in-laws and visiting family. We have also considered renting out this apartment or using it as a small bed & breakfast.

 

Living Room

The living room features the original oak flooring from 1927. This has been refinished and sealed with Osmo hardwax oil. This is an eco alternative to a polyurethane varnish.

Two years ago we replaced the open fireplace with a Jotul wood stove. Although the house can be heated with central heating, we prefer the beautiful warm heat of wood fire. The furnace is useful to warm up the home when we have been away all day. The furnace fuel is oil and the furnace was replaced in the last seven years.

Dining Room

The house features two arches. One between the living room & dining room and the other between the kitchen and breakfast nook.

The dining room features a lot of natural light and a view over the golf course and harbor.

The floor has been modernized with pergo style of flooring. It is very hardy and easy to clean. Although we are not certain, we think that underneath this flooring is the original pine or fir floor.

1st Bedroom - Downstairs

This is the original 1st bedroom. When the apartment was added to the house it was built along the north side. You can access the apartment through the basement or through the French doors on the west side.

The previous owners also built a very large 2nd floor room above the apartment which is accessed in the original house through a room that we use as an office. The main house is considered to have 4 bedrooms but there are actually 5 rooms to play around with. We use the large room as a master bedroom but the large room has also been a playroom, a family room and an office while we have lived here.

Downstairs Hallway

The downstairs hallway features the original wooden floor, wooden stairs to second floor and the downstairs bathroom door at the end of the hallway.  There is a linen closet as well as a coat closet with original bead board doors and inner paneling.

2nd Bedroom - Downstairs

This is the 2nd bedroom. We use it as a Sewing/Guest room. When we originally moved into the house there was carpeting over worn 60's linoleum. We removed the carpet, linoleum, lining paper, sanded the wooden floor and varnished it with a natural oil called Osmo. The walls are painted with SafeCoat zero VOC paint.

  

4th Bedroom Upstairs

 
This upstairs bedroom features two closets, a wooden floor, wooden ceiling and walls, attic storage space and windows overlooking the west side of the yard with peek-a-boo views of the ferries.
